About UsThe Uganda Veterinary Association (UVA) is a voluntary organisation
composed of members of the veterinary profession who have full
membership and veterinary undergraduates who have associate membership.
Record show that UVA was established way back in the 1940's and has had active and dormant phase during colonial administration, a parallel organisation known as Uganda Veterinary Society also existed catering mainly for British veterinarians working in Uganda. UVA's membership grew very rapidly after independence due to larger number of Veterinary graduates from Nairobi University and later on from Makerere University. There are about 500 veterinians in the country. Between 1976 and 1986, UVA activities were depressed mainly due to social-economic problems, civil unrest, unclear government policies and total decline of livestock industry. VisionAn association whose members have the highest socio-economic standing
and whose services make a difference to the livelihood of the
communities.
MissionTo promote the veterinary profession by advocating for the highest
professional standards of education, integrity, ethics and service in
order to improve animal health, productivity and welfare so as to
improve livelihood of the community.
